LOVE IS NOT A FEELING: Common Misconception in Relationships/Marriages.

21:15

1 Corinthians 13:4-8

“Love is patient, Love is kind

It does not envy,

It does not boast,

It is not proud,

It does not dishonor others,

It is not self-seeking,

It is not easily angered,

It keeps no record of wrongs.

Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth.

It always protects,

Always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Love never fails.”

“To love another human in all of her splendor and imperfect perfection; it is a magnificent task, tremendous and foolish and human.”- Louise Erdrich

Love is more than a mere feeling of butterflies in your belly. It is more than the craving and longing to be with another. Love is a much deeper connection.

Love starts with true friendship where an intimate emotional bond is formed which strengthens overtime through a series of vulnerable and supportive actions. To love someone is to make the decision to want to be with this person forever and a commitment to never give up, to always show up, to always stand for and never against them.

The initial “perceived feeling of love” we feel at the start of a new romantic relationship is called “Limerence”- A mental state of profound romantic infatuation, deep obsession, and fantastical longing.

Unlike Love, Limerence is short-lived and conditional. It focuses more on the subject of your affection, and positive characteristics. As time passes by and there is nothing new to see anymore, their flaws become clearer and at this point your interest begins to fade, leading to separation.

Love is unconditional and fluid; it is built overtime.

Love stands any test. It is choosing to stick with someone even in the tough moments, even when a relationship is struggling because of infidelity.

Love is deciding to always put effort in a relationship.

Oh! Love is forgiving even when they don’t deserve it.

Love endures because you choose it, over and over again. There is absolutely nobody without flaws, not even you.

Love is never letting go regardless!

Sadly, not everyone is capable of loving!

Oh! what joy it is to Love someone and be truly loved in return……RARE!
