Most of you must have come across this fruit usually hawked
by northerners around the country, but only a few would have paid attention to
it.
Date fruit is popularly called DABINO by the Hausas and
their mother tree is the Date palm tree. Its botanical name is Phonex
dacylifera.
Jigawa State which is Nigeria’s famous date (Dabino) farming
center, has engaged in date farming for over 400 years and still in the
business till date.
The lifespan of a Date palm tree cannot be predicted, some can
live up to 100 years, while some die within 10 years.
