Watermelon (Citrullus lanatus),  is a nutrient dense food that provides a high amount of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants for a low amount of calories.

It is a member of the botanical family Cucurbitaceae.
There are 5 common types of watermelon:
·         Seeded
·         Seedless
·         Mini
·         Yellow
·         Orange

A seedless watermelon is a sterile hybrid, which is created by crossing male pollen for a watermelon, containing 22 chromosomes per cell, with a female watermelon flower with 44 chromosomes per cell. When this seeded fruit matures, the small white seed coated inside contain 33 chromosomes, rendering it sterile and incapable of producing seeds.
In Northern Nigeria, it is grown in states such as Kano, Sokoto.
