SPEECH IS SILVER, SILENCE IS GOLDEN!!!

Silence!!

 Silence is golden!
This proverb has it’s origin dated back to Ancient Egypt.
The first example of it was used by a poet Thomas Carlyle, who translated the phrase from German in Sartor Resartus, 1831, in which a character expounds at length on the virtues of silence:
“Silence is the element in which great things fashion themselves together; that at length they may emerge, full formed and majestic, into the daylight of life, which they are thenceforth to rule.”
“Speech is too often not, as the Frenchman defined it, the art of concealing thought; but of quite stifling and suspending thought, so that there is none to conceal”
“Speech too is great, but not the greatest. As the Swiss Inscription says: Sprecfien ist silbern, Schweigen ist golden (Speech is silver, Silence is golden); or as I might  rather express it: Speech is Time, Silence is of Eternity.”

Unfortunately, in this modern world, silence has practically ceased to exist. Everyone is talking, they want to be heard, nobody listens anymore.
We live in a world that values sharing every thought and feeling as it occurs. As a result, we often do not pause to reflect on what we have just said. By paying attention to the silence within our conversations and embracing those spaces, we can connect more deeply with ourselves.

Silence and stillness are a means to recovering happiness and contentment.

“Silence is a woman’s best garment.”

Your silence passes many messages; one is that you are somebody, not a nobody, a person able to face a crowd and to wait. This is an almost biological power of a big secure animal, looking at harmless ones.

Silence has a certain energy to it like no other energy source. It has the power to get people to think and to act. It can help slow the mind down, and it is a powerful ally in the likes of counselling and life coaching.
Our Ego is temporarily switched off or at least made quiet for a bit, and we start to see the real world as it should be.
Many at times, our thoughts overshadow reality, therefore not allowing us see the beauty of the world around us.
Silence facilitates introspection and allows our true self to speak, not the ego or the conscious mind, but our true self.

TIMES TO USE SILENCE

  •          During arguments: Silence is most powerful in such a scenario, your ego may be trying to push through, but your ability to remain silent speaks nothing but maturity and helps reserve your energy.
  •          When people around you are gossiping: Gossip is contagious, try restricting yourself from  joining in, especially when the topic of discussion is someone you don’t like either.
  •          When someone is talking: Always be the listener when people talk to you. Use facial expressions to acknowledge that you are listening.
  •          Quiet self-reflection: This helps in reaching a reasonable level of deep inner calm. Take at least 20minutes of your time each day to look through your inner self.

My motto is: DO MORE, TALK LESS!!!!!

Do have a blessed weekend!!
